Welcome to MMC Ceramics!

Let me introduce myself…

Hi, I’m Michelle Mayumi, the hands and heart behind MMC Ceramics. I’m an artist based in Melbourne and a mum of three amazing kids.

I’ve always been someone who feels the world through movement, touch, and creative expression. Long before clay entered my studio, these elements were already part of who I was. I grew up exploring dance, music, painting, martial arts and hands-on crafts, learning to read life through my body—through physicality and the quiet awareness of how small gestures can shift an entire inner landscape. That sensitivity stayed with me, shaping not only the way I create but also the way I hold space for others.

My background is a weave of artistic curiosity, hands-on learning, and a passion for wellbeing. I studied nursing at the University of São Paulo – Ribeirão Preto, earning a Bachelor’s and Teaching Diploma, and have always been drawn to alternative therapies that combine Western and Eastern approaches. Along the way, I explored many ways to help people reduce stress, connect with their bodies, and nurture mental health—from teaching belly dance to participating in projects on stress reduction for university students. I also researched and wrote about Rescuing Memories of Elderly People with Alzheimer’s Through Music, guided by Profa. Dra. Rosalina Aparecida Partezani Rodrigues.

When ceramics found me in 2021, it felt like coming home to something I had been seeking without knowing. Clay offered everything I value: slowness, intuition, grounding, texture, and the freedom to explore without expectation. It became the meeting point between my creative process and my inner practice of presence. Through clay, I learned patience, acceptance and resilience.

In 2023, I founded MMC Ceramics, first sharing my handmade pieces and later guiding workshops. Teaching revealed something profound—the way people naturally soften when they’re given permission to simply play, explore, and breathe. I began witnessing how clay could steady someone’s rhythm, calm their mind, spark connection, and hold space for emotions that words sometimes can’t reach. Over time, I also realized that clay could be accessible to everyone—not just those aiming for a finished piece, but anyone seeking a moment to breathe, slow down, and be present.

It became clear that this work wasn’t just about making objects—it was about offering experiences.

Today, everything I create—whether a piece of pottery or a shared moment in the studio—is rooted in the belief that creativity and embodied presence are powerful tools for wellbeing.

MMC Ceramics Statement

MMC Ceramics exists to honour the beauty of process, presence, and human connection. Each piece and each experience is guided by the belief that creativity thrives when we let go of expectations and allow ourselves to explore with openness and curiosity.

My work is shaped by the tactile, grounding nature of clay—the way it invites stillness, play, reflection, and a return to the body. Whether through handcrafted ceramics, workshops, or Clay Sessions, MMC Ceramics embraces the idea that making art is not only about the outcome but about the journey of hands touching earth and mind softening into the moment.

I’m committed to creating accessible and affordable, welcoming spaces where everyone can touch clay, slow down, and reconnect with themselves. At MMC Ceramics, people are free to experience clay in their own way—without pressure, without performance, and without the need to produce anything.

My mission is simple: to offer a place where creativity becomes a form of care, and where everyone is invited to pause, reconnect, and simply be, enjoying the grounding joy of clay.
